What Is blackr?

flickr.com is a great way to share photos with friends and family. And there are many talented photographers who post their art to flickr for all the world to enjoy. But usually the photos will not look their best on flickr with all its nifty features and comments and links and thumbnails and icons and animated awards.

Enter blackr. blackr is a bookmarklet you can put in your browser's bookmarks bar. Later, when you are on a photo page or one of the “All sizes” pages on flickr, you can click the bookmarklet and it will hide everything on the page behind a soothing black canvas except for the photo. All that remains is the picture. Optionally you get a white border around the photo.

How Do I Install It?

Drag one or both of these buttons to your bookmarks bar:

The one with the square brackets draws a beautiful white border around the picture. Regardless of the button you choose, you can activate all four combinations (black/white, border/borderless) with your keyboard later.

If you prefer a white background, use the following buttons. The one with the square brackets has a black border.

What Does It Cost?

How Do I Use It?

To activate blackr click the blackr bookmarklet while you are on a flickr photo or “All sizes” page. To restore the original page click the bookmarklet again or press Esc or Q.

While blackr is active you can press W to toggle the background color from white to black and back. Press F to toggle the frame around the photo on/off. Simple, yes? Q for quit, F for frame, W for white. 1,2,3,4 are shortcuts for the four possible combinations for real flickr addicts.

Safari and Camino users: If you put blackr at the left most position in your bookmarks bar, you can activate/deactivate it with ⌘1.
